Motivated By Light - CD (2026)
Motivated By Light was a project for my Cinematography class, where we were able to pick any object of our choice, and promote it by learning how lighting works in footage, with thoughful composition in mind.
I ended up picking a CD as my object. I wanted to promote the song “Technicolour Beat” from Oh Wonder’s 2015 self-titled album. However, I was not able to get my hands on the actual original CD, I found a different one that had a beautiful graphic on it that I could play with in my footage.
I wanted to highlight the concept of how a CD can refract light and produce color. In a way to tie the advertisement into the entire vibe of the album, using water droplets, bending light to get color, and more. Therefore, getting a spray bottle to make a mist in the room, and on the object, and a water dropper to make the droplets from micellar water.
I wanted it to start out completely dark, as light rotates around, to bend light all over the object and the room itself, then continuing by giving a both top and side view of water droplets on the CD, and finally by finishing by showing the album cover.
I suspended my CD with a string and clear tape, and held it above a mirror plate, while using a regular light, and panning a colored light over it.
